Update on the online ID and digital identities

Visitors to the Digital Identities stand (303) of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community can apply for their personal ID from a mobile citizens’ centre. The fees and a possible surcharge of 13 euros, depending on the place of residence, can be paid for by giro card. Information will also be available about the online ID and its future easy-to-use Smart-eID functions. Companies and local authorities will receive advice on how to use the eID infrastructure for their online services. There will also be a presentation of the progress being made by the Digital Identities showcase programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

Testing the online ID card and Smart-eID

At #sccon22, on the Digital Identities stand of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community, you can inspect the online ID and a test version of the future Smart-eID. You can find out how to make your smartphone ready to accept an online ID with ‘AusweisApp2’ and how, using the PIN reset and activation service, you can obtain a new PIN and activate your online ID without visiting the citizens’ centre.

You can exchange views with experts on how the eID infrastructure can be integrated in your online services. At a citizens’ computer terminal, buergerservice.org will show how municipalities can provide efficient support for their citizens’ service, and Digital Identities GovLabDE will have information on the plans of the inter-ministerial working group currently being set up.

There will also be information on how the innovation competition of the Digital Identities showcase programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action is progressing. The programme is working on digital identities and documentary proof, e.g. IDs for employees and students, honorary ID or car sharing documentation which can be used securely and across sectors by individuals, companies and administrations.

Applying for a personal ID without an appointment

You can apply for your personal ID from the mobile citizens’ service. This offer is valid for all German citizens. The fee for this exclusive service on offer from the local authority of Reinickendorf, as well as a possible surcharge of 13 euros, depending on your place of residence, can be paid for by giro card. Please bring your old personal ID and a biometric passport photo, if available. If not, your photo will be taken on the stand. Using your valid personal ID you can have your online ID activated and choose a PIN, and you will be ready to securely identify yourself on the internet.
