Smart infrastructure, cyber security and artificial intelligence are the focus of this year's Smart Country Convention. We have already summarised the issues, trends and challenges that await the public sector.

Smart infrastructure

Smart infrastructure has become a key component for digital transformation in the public sector. The aim is to create intelligent, networked systems that not only increase the sustainability and efficiency of processes, but also improve the quality of life of citizens. Whether it's digitalised mobility, proptech or smart charging infrastructure, digital transformation is a necessary prerequisite for reducing bureaucracy, lowering administrative costs and counteracting the shortage of skilled workers. But how can authorities and municipalities implement digital technologies securely and sustainably? At #SCCON25, we will present you with the latest solutions and technologies for a future-proof public sector.

Cybersecurity

More and more authorities and state institutions are becoming the target of targeted cyber attacks. According to the Bitkom Economic Protection Report 2024, 76 per cent of the companies surveyed consider public administration in Germany to be less protected than the private sector. Challenges for municipalities lie in the application and implementation of new data security standards in the digitalisation of public services, the protection of sensitive data of citizens and the defence against increasingly complex threats. Close cooperation between politics, companies and administration is required to create a robust security infrastructure in Germany and Europe. Targeted training and further education for administrative and IT specialists also plays a key role here. With #SCCON25, we offer the public sector a platform to exchange ideas with providers and users about current best practices and to discover the latest innovations in the field of cyber security.

Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is revolutionising the public sector and is a driving force behind the automation of administrative processes, the precise analysis of large amounts of data and the constant optimisation of government services. In addition, AI forms the basis for data-driven decisions that contribute to efficiency gains and time savings in public administration. At the same time, the application of AI technologies presents public authorities and municipalities with new challenges: Which AI applications can be safely integrated into existing systems without compromising data security? What new requirements does the AI Regulation impose on the public sector and how can these be implemented in a legally compliant manner? What can digital twins do for the public sector? At this year's Smart Country Convention, we will discuss these and many other issues with leading industry experts and digital pioneers.
