The 73 federally funded municipalities and associations are experimental locations for integrated urban development and are therefore pioneers and role models for smart city development in Germany. They have launched over 650 very different measures, networked and exchanged ideas and shared their experiences. Many approaches are now mature enough to be adopted by other municipalities on the way to becoming smart cities.

An initial selection of these tried-and-tested, curated smart city solutions will be presented at SCCON - and recommended for imitation! Based on a systematic analysis, the structured profiles from the model projects capture the practical knowledge and success factors for implementing digital solutions and products. In cooperation with the participating municipalities, the Coordination and Transfer Centre for Smart Cities Model Projects is preparing this knowledge, with the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development playing a leading role. The aim of the fact sheets is to inspire local authorities and enable them to find their own way to a smart city or region with practical and technical tips. The portfolio is being continuously expanded.

Even if the first smart city solutions include very different approaches, from the city app to the green wave assistant for bicycles to software for fire brigades, they are all fundamentally transferable. Take urban climate monitoring in Bochum, for example: the project involves setting up a mobile environmental sensor network to record the urban climate in a resource-efficient way. With this data, local authorities can make well-founded decisions for sustainable and climate-friendly urban development. The fact sheet provides working aids for the selection of suitable sensors, among other things.

We invite you to get to know the Smart City solutions at our stand!
